Bye by.

The last couple of days we have been hanging around the house and beach. It has been much windier so the boogie boarding has not been as good as the waves are much close together. Sylvain tells us that the high tide will be on Tuesday so the water will come up very close to where the beach starts.
This morning I took a walk on the beach and found a shell called a silver dollar that I have found once before in British Columbia. There were many Costa Rican families out early taking a swim.
Last night here was a real rain storm that lasted for a couple of hours. Lots of
rain in such a short time. As a result today will probably be muggier than usual. This morning also we saw one of the bright blue butterflies.
I am writing this out on the deck and there are lots of birds on the branches of the trees where we leave fruit as well as 3 or 4 lizards who come to eat fruit also. In the next yard there is a rooster who comes every so often to eat fruit. He also crows at all hours of the day.

We’re a little late writing in the blog only because our pace has slowed down to that of a tortuga (turtle). The tide is really different, with extremes in highs and lows. Look forward to Tuesday which will mark the tide’s peak. Interestingly, Tuesday is also Mardi Gras and yes, Sol Y Mar is having a celebration at that time with a feast of sorts. As I write this on this bright Sunday morning at 8:30 a.m., it is about 95 degrees in the shade. The big blue butterfly flickered by a few inches away from my head when I was cleaning the bottom deck with the broom. It is the 6th or 7th time that I see this species out in the wild. Last night, we had a torrential and tropical thunderstorm and of course, that comes with a power failure. It is part of the culture -- power failures. And you know what, they are nice because the sounds of the ocean and the rainfall lull you to sleep.
We have two ceiling fans out on the wide 30 foot wide x 10 feet deep porch, and four other ceiling fans inside the house. So we always have the constant breeze which is really comfortable. I try to stay out of the sun because once one hot, it is difficult to reduce the body temperature to a comfortable level. It was sad to see Suzanne leave but I’m sure she’s up to some wonderful adventures in other parts of Costa Rica.
We have a little over a week left and we’ll be capturing as much as possible on video and on stills the beauty of this place. If someone ever needs to take a break from it all -- and not expecting to be entertained by outside sources , this is the place. It is secluded, out of the way, remote and stuck in a time warp from the 60s and 70s….You are responsible for creating your own entertainment and games. The house has all the amenities from home -- gas stove, full size fridge, microwave, coffee maker, blender , washer and dryer but none of the over-the-top luxury items like television , phone, bath (but we do have a shower). We requested internet access and that has been fun to stay connected. But bring your books and your creativity!
We haven’t decided what to do today, and will play it by ear. I am watching Tim walk into the low tide of the ocean (oh, a coconut just fell out of the tree beside the deck - those suckers could really damage someone’s head!), Rosie reading a book…I might just go for a swim and play with those angel fish. Yesterday, they were rubbing against my ankles just like a hungry cat in the kitchen. One of them let me pet it…but only for a second. They are beautiful white with angel-like long yellow fins…three vertical stripes adorn their flat little bodies. They like my feet for some strange reason.Do fish have noses? Must be the salt and vinegar chips I ate! Tata for now!

It will be tough to come back to civilization after your relaxed "turtle pace". When are you flying back? Sydney is missing her cousin Rosie so She will have to do a sleepover after you get back. Not sure if you will be back before we leave for Vermont.
Granny is coming over tonight. She has tried to post on the blog but it doesn't seem to work so I will help her tonight. it is the final weekend of winterlude and the weather is beautiful outside, probably +3 and really sunny.
Bye for now,
The Hills
