Crocodiles, sloths and mangroves

Today was animal day. We went this morning on a boat tour up the river that empites into the ocean here in Playa Zancundo.

We stated off with a quick look at the frigate birds, who feed on the fish that feed off the small fish on top of the water. Then Susan ( our guide and landlord) explained the different types of trees in the mangrove swamp.

We proceeded up the river where we saw lots of birds. We took a small tributary and that is where we dropped off Francine and Susan off and they started kayaking. We left them and Rosie and I continued on up the river , there on the banks was a crocodile, we did not get too close before it took off into the water.

Later up another tributary we saw a cayman which is a small type of crocodile. We were able to get very close as you u will see in the pictures.

We then went back to pick up Francine and Suzanne. On the way home we had our biggest surprise f the day that Francine and Rosie will tell you about .

Aujourd’hui, nous sommes allés faire une visite guidée à la rivière Rio, appelés aussi « Mangrove » ou on y retrouve des arbres qui nourissent continuellement la rivière avec de l’oxygen. Les oiseaux sont formidables -- toutes sortes de hérons, de faucons, etc… Suzanne et moi sommes allées en kayak dans un petit canal de la jungle non-accessible par les bateaux-moteur tandis que Tim et Rosie sont restés avec notre guide Susan pour visiter d’autres parties de la rivière. Ils ont vu un crocodile et un cayman. Nous avons vu aussi un peroquet en train de faire son nid et en sortant, nous avons « spotté » un sloth qui sortait de l’eau en s’agrippant à une branche tout près de l‘eau. Lorsque nous nous sommes rapprochés de lui , j’ai pu prendre une belle photo de lui que voici. Quel animal doux avec ce beau visage.

Revenus à la maison, la baignade évidemment pour nous rafraîchir suivit par une petite sieste.

Plus tard, nous avons ramassé des petits « hermit crabs » pour notre ferme. Qu’ils sont mignons. Enfin, le souper au Soda Katherine pour du bon poisson frais et du plaintain. La pluie a commencé à tomber environ une demi-heure après notre retour à la maison. Nous sommes sur le deck en train de relaxer.

Hey guys , Today we went on a river tour with Susan , it was very fun . My mom and her friend went on a Kayak ride . First we saw some birds and when I mean birds I mean a lot of birds . Then Susan explained us some trees . Then we went more down the river and saw more birds . Then we dropped off my mom and her friend to go kayaking . Then me , my dad and a couple continued with Susan and went in an other area where we saw a crocodile going in the water , he was BIG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We did not get too close because he went underwater . So we continued our way in another section where we saw a Cayman which is a little crocodile . We got very close and you might see some pictures . Then we came back to get my mom and as we were heading back guess what we saw ? A Sloth ! It is so cute ! You might also see some pictures of it too! Then we came back and went swimming . Then we came back and relaxed . Then we made plans with Suzanne to go eat dinner at Soda Katherine . After that we went to get more hermit crabs and released them with a video and some pictures that you might see .-- tomorrow So we walked to the restaurant and we had to stop at the store and Diana( Kcriziana’s mom) was holding a little puppy ! I got to there I hold it and take pictures ! W e got there and I had a cheeseburger and it was very good . Then we walked back home and relaxed .
